The 1840-dated Seated Liberty Silver Dollar was only minted at the Philadelphia Mint, so there won't be any with mintmarks. The value of it, just like any other coins is based on the condition, and I'll try to be as detail as possible because a grade difference could mean a lot of money. You mentioned that your coin is in "excellent condition", so let's start with grade Very Fine at the middle of the coin grading scale. In this grade, the coin should exhibit a strong Liberty word on the shield, but with slight wear on the ribbon. This grade is valued at $375. Up a level to grade Extremely Fine, the coin's horizontal line on the shield must be complete, with traces of luster on protected areas. In this grade, $500 retail. Next grade is About Uncirculated, where traces of light wear on only the high points of the design and at least half of the original luster present. Retails for $800 to $1250 depending on appeal, amount of luster and degree of light wear. Price for uncirculated 1840 silver dollar starts from $4000. If the coin has been cleaned or damaged in any way, then the value will be slashed 30% to 50%, or more depending on the damage done.
