And how many times a day should you feed them?

I'm worried my husband is overfeeding them. He's worried about them going hungry.

generally what they can eat in 5 minutes is correct, but you can also tell if you feeding too much or too little by the shape of the fish. if their bodies are distended around their belly, you are feeding them too much. sunken belly, not enough. it is good to vary their diet as well. if their waste comes out in strings, they are constipated. feed them some frozen brine shrimp as a treat or frozen blood worms. if there is extra food after the fish have eaten, net it out so it does not pollute the water

Take 6 whole flakes and then crumble before feeding them once a day. Most fish in home aquariums die from overfeeding. It's very hard to underfeed fish - 1 flake per fish per day. You can split that into 2 or 3 feedings if you prefer.

3 baby goldfish would be all right in a 20-gallon tank, but they won't be babies for long. For 3 adult goldfish, you will need about a 55-gallon tank. Goldfish grow up to be a foot long (koi grow up to be more like four feet long). To make your fish as happy as possible, wait until you have the 55-gallon (or larger) tank before you get any more fish. Don't feed your fish cucumbers, bread, or oranges. Even if they eat it, that's just junk food for the fish. Feed them a good brand of goldfish food. You won't need a heater unless there is some danger of the water freezing in your tank. Goldfish are cool-water fish.

I would recommend that you feed them as much as they can eat in 3-5 minutes once a day. That is all the food they need to do well. You can even skip a day here and there, it's good for them.

Only feed an amount that the fish can consume in 5 to 10 minutes. Feed only once a day. It is so easy to over feed. It is extremely hard to underfeed. Your fish can go weeks to over a month and do fine without being fed. Over feeding kills fish, under feeding doesn't.

only a few then watch to see how many they eat in about 5 min. if they are all gone in like 3 min. then add a few more. but make sure you don't over feed or the tank will become polluted.
