I have a young lady on my swim team who is pigeon toed, this is throwing her back storke, and breast way off, is there anything that can be done to work on this? any workouts that would help her?

Dang, too bad she's not duck-footed, they make great breastrokers!

Unfortunately this characteristic usually corrects itself by age 5 and I sense the child in question is older than that. Pigeon-toeing usually occurs in infancy and toddlerhood and is seen as the child begins to walk. Partly hereditary, pigeon-toeing can only be treated by an orthopedist. Surgery is performed only on asymmetric limbs or those with debilitating torsional abnormalities. Otherwise, it is something the child merely has to live with because it doesn't interefere with normal activity.

The best workout you can give this girl is simply encouragement. Due to her lower extremities being angled differently than the majority, her technique will probably never be perfect. However, she may be able to adapt her stroke to be as efficient as possible given the current situation. Just don't let her get upset by it.

Good luck!

This will be hard to overcome, and she can't help it.
Try small swim fins for flutter kick.
