go to a u-pull-it place or junk yard and have the people there run a check on your car to see what other cars have that same piece or look on line, relays are pretty common at yards or buy new online im sure that same relay was used in alot of cars

I don't believe that relay is for starting the car but may be for some other purpose in the start position of the ignition....being a 74 car, it will probably not be available from a dealer or parts store. A 3 wire relay should be easy to bypass though...if you test the wires, one should be thicker than the others and have power all the time or with the switch on, one should be power on with the switch and the third one goes to whatever the circuit operates. I'm guessing that the ground path is through the metal of the relay itself. If you jump together the thicker wire and the circuit wire, the circuit should be complete and you can see if the car starts. You could also take the old relay to a parts store and see if they can match it up with another 3 prong relay from a different car or truck application like blower motor relay....you just have to match the number of wire terminals and approximate size and be able to mount it like the old one somewhat....then figure out which wire goes to which terminal to operate. Depending on how thick the wires are, I think it might be a relay for some other high amp circuit like power windows or seats or something else. The no start problem is probably a bad neutral safety switch on the bottom of the column--try wiggling the shifter up and down when you try to start the car....if it starts, adjust or replace the NS switch

on that model of car it is the starter selinoid...located on the starter. There is no other relay for the starter. there is also a "fuse link" and it is located at the starter. the fuse link is simply a large black piece on the big wire going to the starter...not the battery wire but the other one...it should be red or pink in color....you will know it when you see it. you can get a repacement for either at your parts store.. either the starter selinoid itself or the fuse link is bad.
