It is a matter of class... some people have it and some don't... it is unfortunate and I feel horrible whenever I see a waiter being jerked around by some moron that shouldn't even be able to leave their house or trailer park without supervision.
But know this there are people such as myself that will tip a waiter extra if I see other customers giving them a hard time, hope that will give you a least a little peice of mind.

I took my son out to eat at a nice restaurant and he wanted the barbequed chicken wings. I was hesitant because I knew that he did not like really hot/spicy food. I asked the waitress about the sauce and she said that it was barbeque sauce. The meal came and the sauce was not barbeque sauce at all and my son, nor I, could eat the wings. The sauce was pure tabasco sauce and they were very, very hot. I had to fight to get the wings deducted from the bill. The mistake was not mine but was the fault of the server.
In comparison, I went to a fine restaurant in Harlem and had chicken livers, greens, and potatoe salad. The potatoe salad was horrible but I am sure that that was the way that the people in that area liked it. I did not ask for compensation.
If the mistake was the server's or the cook's, the client should be compensated. If the mistake was the client's, the client should not continue eating the food then expect compensation. If the food was good enough for the client to eat, then it was good enough for the client to pay for it.
If people insist on being compensated for meals that they do not like because it was foreign to them, then they should stick with McDonalds and Burger King.

It's just another hand out. Any excuse to keep from paying. I've seen people complain about the bill when the prices are on the menu. They get a doggie bag for the salad bar or fill their purse. Sorry low life people.

People will try anything. My daughter works as a server in a fine dinning establishment and she had a 4 top that ate all their food and were sitting there sipping their beverages when one of the customers told her that there was something wrong with his water. (he had been drinking it all night with no complaints) Long story short, he told he it tasted like it had sperm in it. Yes, can you believe it. She offered to get him fresh water, but he refused and continued to complain about it trying to get his whole meal for 4 comp'd. thank God the manager saw through his tactics and refused to comp his meal. People are just so rude. Servers work their butts off and deserve to be compensated for their efforts. I'm with the person who said, if you ate it pay for it.

Easy answer, some people are absolute morons!
Ive seen this happen SEVERAL times at my job, people will come in there, eat everything on the plates and just ***** and whine saying something wasnt cooked right. Not because I work at a corporate restaurant (Chili's), we cant tell them anything, all we can do is take it off the bill to shut them up.
And usually when some ***** pulls this, they wont tip. Which makes it even more sweeter when ya see them walking around with their kids at wal-mart and you get to cuss them out and laugh in their face!
Haha, gotta love it!

anybody who wants to get a free bill either is cheap or, if they r around 20 probably rich and spoiled (never had to pay for anything before). of course some people who do not want to pay cant but its their fault for going and ordering when they cant pay. however if their really was something wrong with the food (they wanted peperoni and got something els) they should get it free because they didnt get what they orderd

Amen, if you're looking for a hand out then go to the soup kitchen. It's very ignorant to me to be eating at a restaurant and have someone near me comped for nothing. Stop whining and pay the bill! You damn sure ate it all didn't you! I understand!

If the food is bad, the food is bad. I waited tables for a long time and have seen every trick in the book. People putting their OWN HAIR in food to get it for free is pushing it..I will not pay for food that is unattractive or tasteless..I also avoid chain restaurants for this same reason. If the food is bad..you shouldn't pay..PERIOD

i think it is silly of people to do that. to me, it is a child's behavior.
i never ask for free meals, even if it is something that was messed up. i ordered ribs at this place that usually had really really great ribs. what they brought out to me was super dry and barely had any meat on them. so, i sent it back. that i can understand. but, if you don't like what you ordered, that is your fault and your loss!

Our rule is if you eat it you pay for it. But if you send it back we will remove it from your bill for whatever reason. However we had one prick come in with his wife and they sat and ate the entire meal and demanded that it would all be comped because his potato was prepared incorrectly. He then didn't tip. If I had been his server I would have picked up his plate, thrown it in the trash and said, "you're all set."
