I usually like mysteries, but not sci-fi. However, I found the Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris impossible to put down. It starts with Grave Sight. The second book is called Grave Surprise. The third book An Ice Cold Grave is due out September 25. The main character Harper Connelly gained the ability to locate dead people and know exactly how they died by communicating with them after she was struck by lightning. It's a great series!

Have you tried the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer? It's got vampires and it's a romance about a teenage girl and a guy vampire. I loved it, and the third book is coming out August 7th (it's called Eclipse, and the second book is New Moon). It's planned to be a 4 book series. I read it in less than 24 hours, I just couldn't put it down. You should give it a try, I promise you'll love it.

Actually, I know a series that meets all of your requirements: Anita Blake--Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton. She a vampire hunter that deals with supernatural mysteries and she has several lovers throughout the series: a vampire, Jean-Claude; a werewolf, Richard; and a wereleopard, Micah. Love, psychic abilities, supernatural creatures and tons of action are all wrapped up in this series. GREAT READS!

OK, something that fits very nicely,
A series starting with "The Adept" by Katherine Kurtz.
The main character is just that , an Adept at Mystical Arts,
in a kind of Sherlock Holmes setting.
His adversaries are of an equal but opposite genre.
