I never understood the logic of an SUV in a big city, my girlfriend is from Vermont and I lived in Minnesota 10 years, neither of us had SUVs (or 4 wheel drive vehicles). But if you are stuck with one here are some ideas to help reduce your demand (and carbon footprint):
Drive at the speed limit, combine trips - instead of buying your smokes a pack at time, twice a day, buy 3 or 4 cartons once a week; instead of buying a fifth of vodka every day, buy several half gallons once a week. Sure it's embarrassing, but the people at the 7-11 and liquor store already know your buying patterns! And here's a great idea for the geezers that might read this, instead of driving your own car to the casino, take the free casino bus.
The great thing about my plan is that once gas up to $4 - $5 per gallon, people will figure it out and do exactly what I am proposing.

I do agree with what you're saying - if you have an SUV, go enjoy what they were made to do.
We don't have an SUV now, but when we did, we were taking trips to moab, and other great off-roading trails all the time - good times.

Damm, where do you live? Here in Chicago we're paying $3.75 a gallon. And, yes, my SUV does go off road. It's the only way I can avoid construction traffic on the Dan Ryan ( : - ) fellow Chicagoans know what I mean). But I had a friend of mine email me from Iraq where he says the Iraqi's are paying the equivilant of 0.39 a gallon there.

I only have starbucks 4 times a week instead of 5 times a week, you know to save more money for gas.
SUV sales are up 25% over last year, figures came out today.

Can't afford to drive much, except to work and do groceries. Casual driving is out of the question.Gas may go up to maybe $4-$5 per gallon by the peak summer season.

$3.15? Wow you have it good...we're up to $1.15 a litre...that would be about $4.30 a gallon.
Hey remember a good 30 cents on that dollar goes to your good old government there...no doubt they are cash strapped and happy to keep it up there too.

If a mere $3.15 a gallon is causing you headaches, you probably couldn't afford the SUV to begin with. Pah.

It's $3.40 here in Wisconsin. . . I am riding my bike to work, and my husband is taking the city bus. We only take the cars out when absolutely necessary.
