My Dell Laptop D610 will not turn on. I press the power button and the computer will not boot up. I have tried various things 1) Remove the battery 2) Only have connected the AC plug 3) Leave my laptop in the port.

After talking to a techie friend I removed the memory only 1 (256K)on the bottom of the laptop, and not the 2nd because the 2nd is under the keyboard. I re-installed the same memory and then I turned on the computer. Everything booted properly, and then a minute after I boot into windows the computer freezes. After waiting a long time I just hold on to the power botton to shut down. After that it will not work or boot up again until I remove then re-install the memory.

So I went to purchase brand new memory for both slots. The same thing happens. I can boot my computer but it freezes after a minute, and once I shut it down it will not re-boot until I recycle the memory. I have tried using only 1 memory in both slots....but no better. What could the problem be and $$$?

If you replaced both memory chips then that can't be the problem. A bad power supply (either batter or cord) wouldn't cause the laptop to "freeze". Sounds like something on the main board... is the fan running? Could be overheating. No matter what, sounds like you need to take it to someone.

D610's are damn sturdy laptops and fairly new. If its still under warranty, call Dell's tech support line. They'll fix it no charge... They'll even send someone out to fix it for you.

Very good tech support there... We have 800 Dells and love them all.

Whats wrong with your computer will cost more to fix just get a new one you have a virus in sector 0 of your Hd this is what will happen if sector 0 is deleted by a new virus its impossible to fix its wipes out the whole computer. The only reason it works when you pull the memory out is the memory loses the virus if its removed when you start it back up it goes through the system and goes to the memory freezing the computer without the memory you cant do any thing so dont fix it just get a new computer you should probaly get a new brand to some computers are made to handle this virus dell is not one of them but acer and hp are try one of them hope I helped.

Take the unit OUT of the dock, nothing connected but kb and mouse. Does the unit "POST",(do you see the windows splash screen) if it does, the issue is windows or drivers. Is the screen just black? Dell usually has error code lights (num lock, caps lock, scroll lock). It will tell you what is wrong if hardware is preventing boot. Is there a STOP code (blue screen) that will tell you whats wrong. EX 0x8e memory, 0x7b inaccessible boot device. or boot sector virus.

Boot to last known good. Boot to safe mode with networking. Does it load. Then down load any drivers needed.

Mac all the way. Dell is sure the classic one, but through experiences, it's really not the best choice. I've been using macs this year and it's really worked for me. I say get another mac, it very much suits you in the things you need to do everyday with it.

go to dell for what the laptop supports it sounds as though you put too much in restart it with just the original memory in it in the holder under the keyboard most memory only works paired ie matching amounts 64mb & 64mb 128mb & 128mb
