When I'm on my computer, is steadily slows down and eventually stops until I restart it, by holding the power button.. I've opened it up and cleaned it. I don't have much more than basic software knowledge, I mean I understand how most things work and I can't see anything wrong in my precesses window...I can screen cap it if anyone thinks that it might be a virus. Overall though, there seems to be no problem except that it just slows down and stops, in about 15 minutes, and if I change the priority of the processes it the programs that I up the priority for last longer. Almost as if something is using up all of my resources...

Any ideas?

It is obviously a software problem. If youre using limewire/brarshare and their ilk, turn tem OFF, youre probably being a server for other peoples downloads. I would investigate whats going on in my system. I'd check processes and threads. Turn off unneeded stuff in start up. Set hardware to performance instead of "let windows manage". I'd bet you also have spyware on the system. Run adaware in safe mode. Take off all those stupid toolbars, im clients, add ons, screen savers, smileys and remove red flags like AOell, more than one AV, cool screensavers, etc

This may not be a software problem, but hardware. Open up the computer case, and leave it open when you turn it on. Blow a fan, at slow speed onto the motherboard and see if your computer runs continuously without locking up. If it does, then you have an overheating problem and your fan is probably the culpret.

Just something to try.

Sorry GlenW......Did not see your posting.....Give him the credit if it works!!!!!!!
