A better idea would be a sustained boycott, that is, reduce our demand.
Drive at the speed limit, combine trips - instead of buying your smokes a pack at time, twice a day, buy 3 or 4 cartons once a week, instead of buying a fifth of vodka every day, buy several half gallons once a week. Sure it's embarrassing, but the people at the 7-11 and liquor store already know your buying patterns! And here's a great idea for the geezers that might read this, instead of driving your own car to the casino, take the free casino bus.
The great thing about my plan is that once gas up to $4 - $5 per gallon, people will figure it out and do exactly what I am proposing.

1. how many people bothered to even read the news about it?
2. in the middle of a gas fill up, right then and there (!), the price rose by $0.03! when i left and saw the sign, it was up at that price also.
3. DO NOT PURCHASE citco gas! that is owned by the maniac named hugo chavez, the president of venezuela. his people live in abject poverty, yet somehow he gets enough money in the coffers to buy out 60% or more of all public utilities. he also purchased, recently, the majority of shares in the only four oil companies in venezuela, which are primarily american. they were built at millions of dollars by americans, worked by americans (and of course the nationals so they could buy flour to make bread and that's about it), and now chavez has "nationalized" them.
chavez is the guy who calls bush a devil. he's done that at a UN meeting, and then another time. then he decided to take it back due to his political tricks, wishing to get something off of us, our country, after he called the president the devil. he did not invite bush to venezuela when bush visited south america about 6 weeks ago. brazil and bolivia want nothing to do with venezuela BECAUSE, and only because, of chavez. most of the other south americans want nothing to do with them and hugo, either.
(they have taken loans from us so many times in the past and we have not regained the money--post your question if you want to talk about what we owe to them).
hugo chavez wants the legislature to change the law so that nothing bars him from getting elected over and over again until his sorry a** drops dead. still, he will keep his people starving while he sits on the throne of citgo and american oil fields. he says that "socialism" is best for venezuelans. he is a tyrant, he is a totalitarian despot, he sits on velvet divans when the people sit on dirt floors.
he wants every other country in south america to follow his lead and to go to socialism. "socialism" is just another word for "communism," only there are subtle differences. yet it really is one and the same. HUGO CHAVEZ IS EVIL.
citco oil's name will soon be changed to something like 'petro....,' which is now being used in TX and one other SW state. DO NOT BUY CITGO GAS.
4. when it comes down to liberals truly putting out any energy to get what they want, they often don't do a darned thing other than moan and complain.
5. the majority of american news sources employ LIBERALS. if LIBS cared so much about boycotting gas on may 15, don't you think they would have ensured that the story was in all the newspapers and on the air?
BOYCOTT CITGO GAS! ALL THE TIME!

A one day boycott will not do anything. These oil companies need to be boycotted for long term periods. It is impossible to do. Can you go without buying gas for 6 months??

Boycotting for one day will not make any difference. People need to boycott as much as possible for a long period of time. Cut back on how much driving you do, walk or ride a bike when possible, and car pool.

Nothing accomplished because the problem was not addressed.
No new drilling
No new refineries
No elimination of the 50 plus blend requirements
No removing variable gas taxes and replacing them with fixed.
It is like pouring water on a grease fire.

I didn't have to wait in line to fill up. Whether this had anything to do with the boycott, I haven't a clue. My wife, brother, and sister-in-law said the same. Good thing we did fill up....apparently the prices went up the next day!

One day will never do anything. It needs to become everyday practice to have an effect on gas prices.
