First line: "is" is not necessary and takes away from the meat.
Last line: I would add "Yorkie" for rhythm. The last line is missing a beat without it.
"Oh, my poor little yorkie, Max"
Try giving it a read with that and you will see what I mean.
That being said. This seems complete and quite sad. It has a morbid sort of, "Ring Around the Rosies" feel to it. Makes me think of Oliver Twist or something of the sort. Quite good actually.

YES! But maybe that's because my dog is named Max and is on his doggie deathbed too. He's a Bichon. : ) 17 years old . . . I keep telling him to go towards the light, but he won't listen. Maybe because he's deaf . . . Well, he is blind too, so maybe he can't even see the light . . .
