Set in Russia, it is a panorama of peaceful times and war during the period when the Czars ruled. It's a long book, but is also well worth the time to read. Great story lines and characters.

It covers almost the entire period of the Napoleonic Wars, from 1805 when Napoleon attacked Austerlitz, through 1812, when he marched on Moscow.
