I am just wondering how much longer?? I was 2-3 cm dilated two weeks ago, and last week I was a full 3 cms. and today I went to the doctor I am 4 cms and 90% effaced. Last week they didn't think i would make it another week but I did! I'm just wondering how long someone can walk around 4 cm with their first baby.

# All systems are developed and ready to go.
# Now it is just a matter of time.
# The contractions could begin at any moment.
# Congratulations!
# Keep in mind that it won't be much longer now.
# Your baby will be born when it is ready.
# Take this time to rest and prepare.

Most likely what will happen when you go into labor is that you will begin to feel contractions. With some women the water breaks, and then they begin to have contractions. In the first stage of labor, the cervix will dilate from closed, which is its normal state, to fully open at 10 cm in diameter.

In mothers having their first child, this stage usually lasts 12 to 16 hours.
For women having second or subsequent children, the first stage lasts around 6 to 7 hours.

Good luck

The good news is you should be in labor a short time! It does sound like you will be having your newest edition to the family within 3 days to a week, if you make it that long! It has become the norm if you are 37 weeks pregnant you are full term now so you will be a little early. Baby may not be very big and with your dilation and effacment you will have an easy birth.
Best of luck, don't walk around too much! And congratulations!!!

okay first off if you don't want to be induces then don't take castor oil castor oil will do that. it make your stomach contract which in turn CAN not always make your uterus contract. it can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours to take affect and can last untill after you deliver if you deliver ( ie pooing while you deliver not fun) or it can jsut make you poo and not have the baby there is alway the risk that it wont work i can say taht i have tried it withthe advice of mt grandma and it worked for me i took 4 oz at once( which was terrible there is no easy way to do it mix it with some juice and just do it. you might puke i almost did, but once it is down if oyu jsut breath it's be okay then oyu jsut wait) there si no right answer for how long it can take it took me about 3 hours and it lasted maybe three bowels movements i didn't eat very much and what i did eat was very binding so keep that in mind it did take me into labor but as that is not a highly recamended hting to do i was sent home with a morphine shot in my butt and told to wait. then my water broke i would say abotu 10 hours after castor oil labor lasted about another 10 hours i can't tell you how hard the contractions were though becseu i had the morphine and an epidural and that was the point i didn't want to know lol so really it can go any direction good or bad. i would do it again but that is jsut me you have to be prepared for it to not do anything or for it to do damage it can be ganger ous and you may still be having bowel movements while delivering. i hope this helps my experice with it was good and i hope tha tit you choose this method that yours is good too.

WOW
The more you dilate now the easier labor should be. i say stay close to the hospital, rest all you can, and PAY attention to those Braxton Hicks contractions. Try to keep the baby in there at least another week and a half, then you should be home free! Or ask the Dr. to do an amniocentesis to check for lung maturity. If your baby's lungs are mature you can go ahead and induce labor.

you can go another week or another month! The baby comes out when he is ready even if you are dilated. Just try drinking lots of water and walk a lot and it'll help when you go into labor. You can also try natural 'remedies' to help you go into labor like castor oil and i've heard of some others but i think it's best to let nature take its course. Good luck and just be patient!

It should be VERY soon. But since its your first baby, it may be a while. I was 3 cm with my first for a week before labor started. If I was guessing, just guessing, I'd say you will probably be a Mommy by this weekend. My twins were born at 34 weeks, so you should be good to go!

Just guessing though!! Congrats anyway!!

WOW! I was 4 cm when I went to the hospital and they admitted me. I had my daughter that night. Your baby would still be considered pre-term, so if I was you, I would hope & pray that the baby stays in a bit longer. I know it sucks and boy, do I feel sorry for you. Well, congratulations in advance!

I WOULD SAY ANY DAY NOW. CUZ YOU ARE ALREADY
4 CM AND 90% EFFACED. YOU NEED TO BE 10 CMS
AND 100 % EFFACED. JUST A LITTLE LONGER. BUT
REMEMBER IF YOUR BAG OF WATER BUSTS GO
STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL.... GOOD LUCK AND
BEST WISHES,.............................

First babies definitely come when they want to lol! It does not sound as though you have much longer to go. Take a bath, relax, sleep, go for a walk. I know you are uncomfortable, but how exciting! Good luck and God Bless!

A normal full term gestaional period is 32 to 40 weeks. How much longer depends on when the fetus is ready to be born.
