The north was right because the war was over the legitimacy of slavery. This is a fundamental human issue not a color issue. Had blacks enslaved whites it still would have been wrong. When the Egyptians enslaved the Israelites it was wrong then and took an inspired Moses to do something about it. During the Holocaust it took the world going to war to stop it. Occasionally people have to fight to right a wrong. This was one of those times.

Cprucka you could use some history lessons on how the freedoms you enjoy now were won through the efforts of others. Start with Harriet Tubman.

Edit:
vcxzzxcvvcxzzxcv if you know anything about political history then you also know that today's republicans are the democrats from 150 years ago and vice versa. But don't take my word for it research it yourself.

In 1776, the Americans rebelled against a Aristocracy system in England. 80 years later some aspects of that system still remained and were so entrenched that it took another war to remove them. Southern Plantation owners, most of them of English descent, were perpetuating a barbaric system they inherited from Colonial days. Unlike in the North, most land in the south was owned by a very small percentage of wealthy landlords. Like in the UK "servants" were housed on the lord's property in exchange for working the lord's fields for free. It was this system that drove Europeans to migrate to America in the first place. The North was simply destroying the economic system that was incompatible with our values.

melspostys is wrong, The abolitionist movement started almost immediately after the Revolution, in fact probably pre-dates it. The South didn't put as much into the war effort because they misjudged the resolve of the North. Once the war started the South again failed to attack the North's industrial complex while the North obliterated the South's. Of course, in politics might does make right.

Haha, hun, the North was NOT right...

Robert E. Lee will forever be a hero.

"Robert E. Lee chose to surrender rather than conduct a guerrilla war that could have lasted for decades."
-Clint Johnson

Here is a HIGHLY OFFENSIVE Quotation the History Books Leave Out:
"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races--that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."
-Abraham Lincoln, 1858

The war was not about slavery, contrary to popular belief...

The short answer is because the North won. The victor always write the history books.

The long answer involves the importance of noble ideals such as freedom from oppression and slavery, the survival of a young nation and the proof that the system of government that was setup by the founding fathers was infact the correct way to do things.

That is the Civil War in a nutshell. You sould be able to do some research to get more and cite examples. "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime"

Most people think the Civil war was mainly about slavery, however it was caused by a need to preserve the Union. I'm not going to do your homework for you, but this something you can expand on.

I am on the fence on that question. Slavery was not an issue until the end and Abraham Lincoln wanted more fighters. Slavery was practiced on both side. The real reason the North won was they had more Military equipment, more men but the South had the Heart of it all.The south was tired of being dictated from the North always telling them what to do.The South's rights were taken away from them and then left to starve and deal with all the unemployed slaves and carpet Braggers.

Naked is wrong. But then it would depend on where you was raised and how much you studied it.The war was not a cut and dry war.It torn our country apart. Both sides had faults. The South and the North.

The North was "right" because the North were the Republicans and the Republican Party has been right on every issue in history.

The Democrats wanted to keep the blacks enslaved and gave their lives for that purpose. After they lost they resorted to terrorism with the KKK. When that failed, the Democrats decided to buddy up to them and offer them all kinds of entitlements because they knew that the end result would be the perpetual poverty of the black race.

But don't use any of these FACTS in your paper for school, because your teacher is a Democrat and is ordered to brainwash you into falsely believing that it is the Republicans that are the racists. She will lash out at you and give you a bad grade for not towing the party line.

Is it right for one human being to own another? That family were torn apart, for profit, intimidation, and cruelty! To instill fear, deprive entire generations the everyday freedoms everyone of that time enjoyed because the color of their skin. No one wanted to work in the fields and pick their own cotton, tabacco, or other commodies of that era. The list just goes on and on.

The north won and wrote the books. Think they'd write that they were in the wrong?
