The jobs illegals take are often under-paid, unsafe, or otherwise exploitative to and beyond the point of constituting a violation by the employer. Illegals don't want to report such for fear of deportation. Americans do not have that concern.

BKevork got it right on, Americans do pick fruit, and clean toilets and all of that...but it's harder for an employer that wants to break minimum wage laws or other working laws to get away with it with a legal citizen...with a legal citizen or resident, there's more of a paper trail, and more chances of the employer getting caught.

It's simple supply and demand. Employers can pay $7 per hour to a Mexican, so why should they pay more to an American? Most Americans won't do "hard labor" for a stupid wage like that.

Cause people get rich hiring non-americans who work for cheaper wages. I am not knocking it cause immigrants got to work also. I wish they were not exploited but our society runs on money. Because they don't pay enough. Most americans will do any kind of work so long as the compensation is fair. But so long as their are immigrants, legal and illegal, willing to do it for less than a living wage, those jobs will not be filled by americans.
