I call myself a libertarian (it seems very hip these days)

but I have both Conservative and Liberal beliefs

~I think environment has to be our #1 concern
~smaller government - states rights
~separation of church and state
~I'm pro-choice
~against the death penalty
~for gay marriage
~against gun control (accept for semi-auto weapons)
~against the war on drugs
~against the war in Iraq
~for some solution that stops terrorists from wanting to kill me

in a US that seems so divided to me ... could I be a moderate?

does democrat or republican really mean anything anymore?

what do we need to be less divided (at least outwardly) as a country?

and what are the chances we will get a moderate president in the next election?

... feel free to answer any of my questions or just comment if you like

What we need is people like you who realize that it isn't about lining up on one side or another. Believing or feeling a certain way about one thing does not be default mean that you have to believe or feel a certain way about another issue. Far left and right have gotten so involved in debating the other side that they forget what they think individually.Stay in the middle. Make up you mind on issues based on their individual circumstances. If you just lining up on one side or the other then that makes you a mindless sheep. Think for yourself that's what I say.

It is sad more people don't take items up by the issue rather then the label that goes with it. I believe myself to be a hard core right wing conservative and proud of it - yet I oppose the death penalty which is hardly a conservative view.

Democrat and Republican are merely political machines. There are conservative democrats that would make some Republican's look like leftists and the opposite is true some left wing Republicans make blue dog Democrats look extremely right wing. The "R" and "D" titles mean nothing - the views on your issues (and mine) are what mean everything.

8 out of 10 of those are liberal positions. You'd be a regular old Democrat if they weren't hanging so far out to the left.

Democrat and Republican these days is like Yankees and Red Sox. They're so focused on making sure they win and thier rivals lose, that nothing else really matters to them anymore. Liberal & Conservative still mean something, though, and the parties still use the hot-botton issue of each to get people behind them.

it extremely is gloomy extra people do not take products up via the difficulty particularly then the label that is going with it. i've got self assurance myself to be a annoying middle appropriate wing conservative and pleased with it - yet I oppose the dying penalty that's not often a conservative view. Democrat and Republican are purely political machines. There are conservative democrats that would make some Republican's look like leftists and the choice is authentic some left wing Republicans make blue dogs Democrats look extremely appropriate wing. The "R" and "D" titles advise not something - the perspectives on your matters (and mine) are what advise each and every thing.

The blurred line is between Republican and Democrat. Liberal and Conservative lines are much more clear as they are each on the absolute far spectrum....the most reactionary of their respective parties.

You could be a moderate but join the Libertarian Party it will be better and it does fit in with most of your beliefs.

Most people are moderate. The far right and the far left ( no one in congress is that liberal) are doing there best to destroy the country it seems.

From the looks of things, you look more liberal to me...
the only conservative one in there is the smaller government one.
I, for one, am rather conflicted.
On a lot of economic and political things I lean more towards liberal.
But on ethical and moral things I lean more towards conservative.

Whenever you're not sure if democrat or republican means anything, think about whether a democrat president would have invaded Iraq after 9/11. There's a huge difference and thanks to bush we're painfully reminded of it every day.
