if u r going to long time then shutdown if u r going for only for 10-20 minute then sleep but not to turn off the power of harddisk u will find this option in power in control panel

it doesn't matter. i shut down only when i install windows updates. the computer runs the same if you just put it on sleep. the only thing might be that you need to change the computer power supply after say 3-4 years if you alwats leave it on. shut down only takes up your time with pointless powerup sequences.

I use the power settings, shut off the monitor after 2 hours and shut down the HDD after 2 hours. That's it.

SHUT DOWN IS BEST. NEVER put into hibernate, rarely put to sleep or standby. The computer may be fine goin down, (your hardware and windows) but ALL the you aps have must behave themselves or you're gonna have errors.
