1. Determine the surface area of the pipeline to the nearest 10000 square feet when it is 800 miles long and has a diameter of 4 feet

2. Determine the volume of this pipeline to the nearest 10000 cubic feet

Please help I have no idea how to do this!!!

Surface area of a cylinder is circumference of one end times the length, so
c=2rpi =8pi = 25.13274123....ft
The length has to be in feet so
800 mi= 4224000 ft
Multiply the two to get
106160699 ft^2
round that answer

volume= area of one end times length
area = pi r^2
area= 16pi
V= 16pi * 4224000 = 212321397.9 ft^3
round that

Surface Area of a Cylinder = 2 pi r 2 + 2 pi r h

(h is the height of the cylinder, r is the radius of the top)

Surface Area = Areas of top and bottom +Area of the side

Surface Area = 2(Area of top) + (perimeter of top)* height

Surface Area = 2(pi r 2) + (2 pi r)* h

In words, the easiest way is to think of a can. The surface area is the areas of all the parts needed to cover the can. That's the top, the bottom, and the paper label that wraps around the middle.

You can find the area of the top (or the bottom). That's the formula for area of a circle (pi r2). Since there is both a top and a bottom, that gets multiplied by two.

The side is like the label of the can. If you peel it off and lay it flat it will be a rectangle. The area of a rectangle is the product of the two sides. One side is the height of the can, the other side is the perimeter of the circle, since the label wraps once around the can. So the area of the rectangle is (2 pi r)* h.

Add those two parts together and you have the formula for the surface area of a cylinder.

Surface Area = 2(pi r^2) + (2 pi r)* h
This is from
http://www.math.com/tables/geometry/surfareas.htm

Volume of a cylinder = b h = pi r^2 h

You do the math, then truncate to the nearest 10000.

volume= pie*r^2 so u have to convert the 800 miles into feet so you multiply it by 5280 since thats how many feet are in a mile which equals 4224000 so...

pie*4^2*4224000 which equals 212321397.90021258622825929041556 then round that for the volume

area just equals pie*r^2 which equals 50.265482457436691815402294132472

Surface Area = 3.142 x 800miles x 5280 feet/mile x 4 diam. = 53,087,232 Ft².
The volume is the same in Ft³, as r² is the same as the diameter.

Volume = (π) 3.142 x (r) 2 x (r)2 x (length) 4,224,000
= 53,087,232 Ft³

Erin, I think you knew that both answers were the same...you were pulling the wool over everyone's eyes !!!

Surface area = 2pirh
where r = 2 feet, pi = 3.14, and h = 800*5,280 feet.
So Surface area (2)(3.14)(800)(5280) = 26,526,720 ft^2

Volume = pir^2h = (3.14)(2^2)(800)(5280).
Volume = 53,053,440 ft^3 = 53, 050,000ft^3 to nearest 10,000.

S = pi D L
S = pi x 4 x 800 x 5280
S = 530800349
Ans: 530800000 sq. ft.

V = pi r^2 L
V = pi (2^2) x 800 x 5280
see above
Ans: 530800000 cu. ft.

To find the surface area:
2pi(radius)(height)

2(3.141592654)(2)(800)=10053.09ft2

To find the volume:
2(radius)pi x height

2(2)3.141592654(800)=31582.31ft3

the answer is pie times 2 times hight of cylinder. 5024. add on 4x12.56. the answer is that the area is
5,074.24 miles, then multiply 5.074.24 times 5,280. so the answer to the problem is 26,791,987.2 sqr feet. as for cubic feet i think you might divid by four but i don't know add me to friends im good at math =)

80Omiles convert it to feet then multiply it by 4feet. as you can see when you stretch a cylinder it will form a rectangle
