It's their buzz word to get a reaction from you, usually they are nothing of substance and have nothing of substance and can contribute nothing of substance so they try to dimish others!

I try to ignore them and my posture on Iraq is more complicated than some. I believe we had reason to go when Saddam kicked out the U.N. inspectors and I believe we "won" (whatever that means) when we deposed Saddam and destroyed the weapons he had. I don't believe we had any obligation to install democracy in Iraq any more than we had the right to impose the Shah on Iran (and didn't that just work out great). Anyway, I tried to give a reasoned answer that I had done Vietnam and was too old to go to Iraq. I got an email from a user named "squawk squack chickenhawk" demanding my age, when I was in 'Nam etc. I answer him with the truth and that was the last I heard. So it's better to ignore them, but some do not let it go. This still is a free nation and we still have the right to dissent and express negative statements about our government. I wish some of the Yahoo users would remember that. So-that's my experience.

Let's go kill some arabs and get their oil and make a bunch of money... Be Patriotic! Fight for my money! Die for my money! And when you come back to good ole USA, good luck getting your amputee and hospital bills paid for.

Oh I'm gonna be busy for the next 5 years so I'm not gonna go over to that desert bombed country in the middle east. And my kids are gonna be at Yale and Harvard while your's are in some sh^t public school or killin' arabs for me. But by all means, go over there cause I'm scared of some arabs taking over America.

Sounds like you are describing a certain YA poster who loves to use that term.

Lets review NONAMES biography which he freely admits to. The many YA ID’s he frequently posts under: mr white the secure American, his favorite…dildo oreilly, squak squak chickenhawk, the secure American, chickenhawk george w b. These Ya ID’s have been violated on YA more times than NONAME in one of his all boys bars on a Saturday night. His favorite taunt is chickenhawk and coward…bold statements coming from a behind the lines former REMF.

He claims he is an AF veteran but admits he served stateside hiding under a desk in an Intel Unit (Intel Units=in the rear with the gear) while others did the heavy lifting overseas. His lovely wife…who I know very well…told me the only combat experience he has is the fighting he did getting to the head of the chow line at the mess hall.

Actually, if you are anti-Iraq war it is totally consistent that you would not be in Iraq, since you don't agree with the war.

It is also totally consistent that you could call someone a "chicken hawk" because if they talk as if the Iraq war is very important but apparently not important enough for them to go. Then it looks as if their actions do not match their rhetoric.

Anyone who supports the Iraq war with their words but not thier life is a hypocrite. If the war were as important as you say, you would be there fighting it, not sitting in a college dorm room calling everyone else cowards.

There's not much you can do. The military won't take you, so you can't go that route to silence thier accusations.

When you think about it, though, all thier trying to do is pre-empt the accusations of cowardice. Anti-war types, by definition, aren't going to serve in the military (though they might be veterans who have experienced a 'conversion'), and the obvious thing to do is accuse them of being anti-war because they're /afraid/ they might be called on to serve.

For whatever reason, though, you don't see a lot of that.

In the past, you'd also see the anti-war crowd catching flack for supporting the enemy (like Hanoi Jane) or criticizing even heaping abuse upon the soldiers actually fighting the war. That didn't win them a lot of respect. It's almost as if they had a big meeting, and thier leadership explained it to them: pretend to support the troops; pretend to be patriotic; pretend that marching in circles with a sign is just as brave as facing the enemy in battle.

Definition of a chickenhawk is one who advocates war but won't serve in one, like the Bush/Cheney regime. Dems, in the case of Iraq, do not advocate for war.

Yeah what is shown in Iraq makes us want to stop the war even more.... there is too much unnecessary violence there.... and I have never called anyone a chicken hawk

You know what...if they have never been then just shrug it off. I hear all kinds of crap about Iraq and the military from people that have never experienced it...and yes, it pisses me off...but just remember that they have never been there...they don't know what it is like...and who gives a crap what they think...they don't know what it is like to be in a place that you are forced to be comfortable with.....or in a position where they are forced to stay away from their families for years at a time only to have to decide on R&R if you really want to go back for a two week visit...because it would be so tempting to go AWOL and not return to duty. They don't know...so ignore them.

They don't want anyone to be in Iraq either as to where you all want people to fight for you and you are pro-war but have no interest in actually standing up for it and fighting yourself. That is how you get called a chickenhawk.

Chicken hawks
does not just refer to Bush's war on the Iraqi people...
just ask Cheney
or Mitch McConnell, R-KY - did not serve...
Trent Lott, R-MI - avoided the draft...
John Boehner, R-OH - did not serve...
Rudy Giuliani - did not serve...
Dennis Hastert - avoided the draft, did not serve...
Tom Delay - avoided the draft, did not serve...
Karl Rove - avoided the draft, did not serve...
Newt Gingrich - avoided the draft, did not serve...

These guys are famous Republican Chicken hawks
and they've never been to Iraqi (to actually fight in Bush's war)

Get the idea....
