I would make sure first that he (or she) is getting enough, and that it's not dehydration. If your satisfied that he's getting enough and he's having plenty of wet diapers, then I would just rub some lanolin on them occasionally throughout the day, esp. before breastfeeding. They sent me home from the hospital with a tube of Lansinoh, so if you've been breastfeeding, I'd guess you probably already have it and have been using it.

I didn't really do anything about it. I did use lansinoh for the first couple weeks though and I'm sure some rubbed off on to my son's lips. They're fine now. He just has a tiny callous in the center of his top lip, but from what I've heard, that's normal.

I recommend aquaphor.

You can also could use Lansinoh between nursing (it's safe for baby) on your nipples, which will help prevent chapping and make both of you a little more comfortable.

I think the safetest thing to use is Vaseline Potrolium Jelly! It is water based, safe if some gets injested through breastfeeding.

Good Luck

DO NOT USE VASELINE ON BABY"S LIPS it is made from crude oil. Use beeswax lip balm or lanolin. or rub a little expressed breast milk on them. the fat content in the breast milk will keep them soft and smooth.

I don't recommend using anything. If you are using something on your breasts to keep them from getting chapped that's ok, but as far as I know the experts don't say anything about using something on them.
Its a nursing callous and it will go away on its own.

A little vaseline lightly on babys lips

lanolin (the same stuff you use on your breast, that doesn;t need to be wiped off before you feed)

Vasiline petrolium jelly is NOT water based it is an oil based product, PETROLIUM means oil. its a by product of oil/gas refinement. there is NO water in this, that is why water beads up when you have it on your skin water and oil do not mix.

I think a little Vaseline is harmless to a baby. A little goes a long way and should heal pretty fast.
