Either what Shrimps said or you need a DSL filter. Without one, the telephone interferes with you DSL connection, like with a dial-up modem. Ask your DSL provider where you can purchase some DSL filters for your DSL modem and telephone and how they should be used. I have a DSL connection and with the filter, it works perfectly. Just plug in the modem in the "DSL" slot and the phone in the "phone" slot and plug the filter into the wall's phone jack. Hope this helps!

I would suggest that you not use the long phone cord and buy a long network cord to run from the modem to the computer instead. The longer your phone line run, the slower your DSL connection. The length of the network cable shouldn't be as big a factor in your connection stability as is the phone cord.

You could also bite the bullet and go to you local home improvement center and buy the proper cable, some scotchloks and phone jack and install a jack where you need it. It's not rocket science. Just make sure that you match the colors of the wires on the new cable run, drill a few holes, and go for it.

Good Luck,

If the failure happens when the broadband light goes red or flashes this may be the extension cable, it could also mean that you have an extension with no filter fitted. If not go to the router configuration and check the dhcp lease time. Set this to 28 days.

I had an ActionTec GT701 which ultimately refused to fasten onto the DSL sign coming over the telephone line. The gadget contained to adjustable factors so there wasn't something i ought to do to restoration it. The wall wart power grant became positive. So I merely replaced it. in the adventure that your telephone co. presented yours, they might even provide you a sparkling one. after all, they do no longer seem to be costly. I have been given the greater contemporary GT704.

yeah, cable length could potentially be an issue. ideal length is 12 feet... 15 feet max.
