I've been on collegeboard and many more similar sites, but I need some more personal advice :)

I want to major in, and possibly minor in another, of the following in a New York or Boston college or University - have any suggestions as to schools? Thanks in advance :)

(For undergrad.):
Political sci.
Philosophy
*Something to do with "lawish" and sociology-related things :) Thanks! (P.S. - I'm really "into" English and international relations, politics, etc. - if that helps w/ suggesting more majors?)

Given your broad interests, it seems that the most appropriate thing to suggest would be what is known as a "liberal arts" college. These are four-year colleges (they do have graduate programs, for the most part, these days, but they focus heavily on undergraduate education) and the goal is to give students a strong basis for looking at issues in the world - different theories, philosophies, approaches, etc. Consider the Jesuit universities (Fordham or Boston College, in the areas you are considering) or, if you are not a fit for something with a religious tradition, what about something like Marist or Ithaca? They aren't in the city, but might fit your needs in other ways.

For International Relations, I would highly suggest Boston University. Although I'm slightly biased as an IR student at BU, the program is pretty good. There's a range of professors including an ex-CIA analyst, a current CIA Operations Officer in Residence, a retired ambassador, etc... There's several different functional/regional tracks and tons of interesting classes.

It's a pretty good liberal arts school too... The one drawback is that a lot of people don't like the idea of not having a 'real' campus.

If you are solely looking into political science and philosophy in New York/Boston, I would reccommend Columbia University, Boston college, Boston University, NYU (good psychology school).... but by far, based on your interest in international relations and politics I'd reccommend Georgetown in Washington D.C. which is the best with regard to what you want to pursue.

Hope this helps
