Hello:
Here are my favorite foods to eat at a barbecue:
Barbecued Chicken
Barbecued Ribs
Watermelon
Cantaloupe
Coleslaw
Potato Salad
Pasta Salad
Baked Beans
I like grilled hot dogs and hamburgers once in a while but not all the time.
Jello with or without fruit in it
Vegetable Trays with dip
Fruit Trays with fruit dip
Cheese and cracker trays
Dill Pickles
Lemonade
Kool-Aid
Pepsi Cola or Mountain Dew
Powerade or Gatorade if it is really hot outside
Iced Tea (Without sugar)
I could go on and on and on!! ;-)

Ribs,
Nothing is better than a slab of ribs falling off the bone. You can make them wet, with BBQ sauce, or dry, with a dry rub of spices. To do it right you need to cook em, or BBQ, low and slow. It takes a little preparation and work, but the result are worth the effort.
You can make barbecued ribs on the grill, even a gas grill. The key is to maintain the temperature at about 225 deg F inside your grill. I suggest a oven thermometer or a remote thermometer to keep an eye on the grill temperature.
Once you season up the ribs and get them on the grill it can be between 3 and 6 hours to get them done just right. When the ribs pull apart with a little tug they should be ready. But to be on the safe side consult with the USDA recommendations on beef and pork safe done temperatures.
You can find plenty of ideas at http://www.smokercookingsecrets.com
The recipes are for smoked food. For you grill just eliminate the wood for smoking and follow the recipe.

Home made potato salad. I use 5lb bag of baking potatoes. Boil, then skin while hot, Skin comes right off. Chunk up and put in fridge to get cold. Later, mix i cup hellman's mayo, 1/4 cup red vinegar, a bunch of celery chopped, chopped onions, a dash of salt, black pepper, sprinkle with alot of parsley, (fresh preferably), and slice up a hard boiled egg or two. Make sure u make this the day before, cause the ing. have to all come together. If ya need a bit more mayo, go for it, but mixed with the vinegar, it should come out just right, not too much or it gets kinda mayonnaisy. I'm telling you, I make it every outdoor party I go to, and it's the first salad gone in sixty seconds, and all I hear is, "who made that delicious potato salad?" Very important, make sure the potatoes are cold before putting the mayo in or it will melt.

well for the meat lovers you can have ribs, sausage, chicken, steaks and even some pork chops.
For the not so meat lovers you can put some small mixed veggies on aluminum foil, put a little salt and pepper and a pat of butter or a few drops of olive oil and cover and put on the BBQ.
Or try the big veggies cooked directly on the BBQ like corn on the cob, whole potatoes wrapped on foil (for bake potatoe style), green or red or yellow peppers cooked until soft.
Or just mix it all up on shish kebabs.
For the extras are the salads, green, potato or macaroni, baked beans, the pies, fruit salad, the sodas or iced tea.
And just have a great ol time at the next BBQ.

This one can be debated so Im not going to say a 3rd best but 2 of them. Ribs and chicken. These are probably the next best things compared to hot dogs and hamburgers and really would depend on preference.

Kebobs... Get chicken and steak..... Cut them into 1-2 inch chunks. Then rotate that with green peppers, red peppers, squash, zucchini, etc... Make it colorful... Yummy!!!!
Also for a cheaper cookout, which we have all the time, we do hamb, hot dogs, brauts, with potato salad, mac salad, chips and dip, and something like watermelon, or etc.. for dessert. It is pretty well liked by almost everyone, and even the little kids can join in and eat with all of us. Make it kid friendly too.... Don't forget the onions, tomatoes, pickles, relish, ketchup, mustard, buns, and paper plates and silverware. Oh and the drinks... We usually just do an ice chest with a variety of drinks.. like dr. pepper, mt. dew, coke, diet coke, and bottled water... depending on how large the cookout is...

Hot dogs and hamburgers are the best. Other than that chicken is good to have. Some people don't like to eat beef. Also ribs can be good, but messy. Carne Asada is good to have if you have some rice, maybe some beans and cheese for burritos or something. And there are sausages. Kinda like hot dogs but better.

Meat- chicken and salmon, easy prep and easy cooking. Veggies, I have a very easy dish that I prepare. Mix together diced potatoes, carrots, zucchini and yellow squash, add a lot of butter, wrap it in aluminum foil and poke some vent holes in it. When it is done cooking, (you'll want to start it about 30 minutes before the meat), throw it in a bowl, toss it with a little italian zesty dressing. It is delicious! Have a great bbq!

we always have grilled corn on the cob and baked ziti ~ either with meat or not, but with the burgers and dogs. Just wouldn't be a barbecue without them, although if it's just adults, you could grill up some steaks instead!
