I took it in high school and I've never had to use it. I consider it a waste of my school time. Typing and English have been most important in my life.

High School doesn't teach you anything useful in your life. It's just a place that molds you into a mindless working zombie of society that doesn't question authority and is easy to take advantage of.

I use it all the time. It partly depends upon your occupation, but it also depends on if you notice it. For example, if you were a chef and needed to scale a recipe, the odds are you are using algebra and not noticing it.

If you are a manager determining the price to sell clothing at, you likely are using algebra for marking up and for adjusting the effects of fixed and variable costs, but without realizing it.

I have noticed lots of people use algebra all the time, but do not realize that is what they are doing.

Whenever you need to change the scale of something or figure out the rate at which something occurs, or when you need to markup to a fixed value, you are using algebra.

Most people do not sit down and do x+3=5, but quite a few end up with, well hmmm....I ended up with 5 screws, but I only took three out of the shelf, where did the other two come from.

That is the essence of algebra, most people just do not call it that and they don't know they are doing it.

my dad did but he was a general contractor.... and he used more algebra than geometry, but it was more along the lines of simple alg.
It is a fairly pointless math skill unless you are in a scientific field of work. like chemistry or physics.
other than that the only useful math I have ever taken was financial math because it taught me how to balance a check book which has been helpful.

Simple algebra, yeah. 4 apples for a dollar. 4x= 1. x=.25

It's not rocket science, but it's used. Just because your mind does it quickly and with ease doesn't mean it started that way. you had to learn, and before you know it, you were thinking in algebra.

No Calculus... what a waste of time.

Never. I always asked myself if I really needed to know what x2-y(3x)+t/d=p means, turns out I didn't, haven't and probably never will need to know what it means. English, Hospitality and P.E. have been the most benificial for me!
