My daughter is almost five months old and she still uses the number 2's. The time you know that you should move him on is if he's sucking really hard and getting frustrated by it. That's why I moved to number 2's. The number 3's have a MUCH faster fluid flow, so be careful if he's not ready for them yet. You'll waste formula and he might end up choking.

I actually skipped right over #2 and went from 1 right to 3, and I did it around 3-4 months. My babies didn't mind, and it helped them eat faster, lol. I don't think there is a huge difference between the two - if your child can handle a #2, #3 does not make a huge difference.

We don't use Avent, we use Gerber, but I believe the signs are the same for when to move to the next size. When your baby is sucking regularly but it takes more than 20 minutes to finish a bottle is one sign they may be ready for the next size. The other is when they are sucking but there is a "popping" noise (hard to describe, but put your lips together then suck in and you will make the same popping sound). Our daughter is 6 months old today and is still on the medium flow, we'll probably be ready to switch to fast flow in about a month to month and a half.

My daughter now seven months stayed on stage 2 till just last week we noticed she was getting mad at the bottle (i guess it was to slow) so we actully went to stage 4 and she loves it. it doesnt take her nearly as long to eat now. Not sure how i feel about that but she always hates a cold bottle so i guess its good. I would say if you want just by a couple of the stage 3 and work it into a few feedings. Your little one will let you know what he is comfortable with.

There is nothing beyond the 6+ months as that is the fast flow teat. Beyond that is the sippy cup and or normal cup. So yes, that flow will be ok for an 11 month old.

WOW. my daughter does not like the number 2 or 3. She is still stuck on 1. By the way she is 6months going on 7months. I asked my doctor if that was normal and she says yes. As long as she is getting the nutrients that she needs she is ok. As long as my baby's happy i'm happy. I hope this helps.

Our son is still on #1 nipples except for the rice bottles which are #2. Allow your baby to dictate which nipple he or she needs.
