If you mean the mis-use of the word 'gay' to mean homosexual then it comes from the practice in the 1960's in England for homosexual army officers to identify each other. In those days it was illegal to be homosexual and until recently homosexuals were not allowed to join the armed forces. The word 'gay' comes from the expression 'Good As You'. using the acronym, or initials G A Y. Sadly this ruined the proper use of the word which means happy or carefree.

Well, "Ga" doesn't really define that lifestyle. It sounds more like baby talk. Since boy is a 3 letter word and "gay" is also a 3 letter word and is more referred to guys (lesbian for girls) they took the "y" from boy and made the word "gay".

Sorry, that was my best bs.

That is the way the word is spelled and it used to mean happy but they ruined it for us by preferring to be called gay.

The Y came from the obnoxious preteens who use this and other derogatory words to mean that they dont approve of something.
