The old professor says: Indeed it is a fact. The heat of the lightning strike fuses the silicates in the sand and produces the mineral FULGURITE. Fulgurite structures are much like stalactites in shape, but rough on the outside and often are hollow, like soda straws, on the inside. They are indeed fragile and have to be handled carefully. I found many in the sand dunes of the western panhandle sand dunes of Texas.

Yes with the right type of sand. You need a sand high in silica content. The heat will melt the sand and - that's what glass is.
A lightning strike make beautiful glass but it's very fragile so be very careful getting it out.

Lightening striking sand does make glass. The heat from the lightening melts the sand into glass. Sand is the main ingredient in making glass

yes actually it does. the heat from the lightning turns the sand to glass. its very cool.

It doesn make glass, however, that glass is way to fragile to do anything with.
