What 'would be' or what 'is'? Are you asking about an existing artifact? Or one that, if it were found, would be the most famous?
I think the Shroud of Turin is a pretty famous artifact, many know of it. Or Tut's tomb also

An artifact being something man-made rather than a fossil, I would have to say the Cross of Christ which is central to quite a bit of human history both positive and negative.
Even were all relics proved to be fake and that cross is no longer extant the image and effects are indelibly writ on/in history.

In my opinion it would have to be the Holy Grail.
