It also depends on the quality of the brake parts.
I was using what I thought were quality brake pads and rotors (carquest, top of their line) and replacing them every 6 months. (Pads AND rotors)
I switched to another brand and have had them on 18 months without any problems yet.

I'd say it also depends on the car. The reason I go through brakes so much isn't because of my driving skills, it's the car. It's a 99 galant and they had huge brake issues. So really, most cars should get more mileage than I am. My example was simply the difference I got when switching to better quality parts.

So I'd say it depends on the car, your driving, and the parts you are using. It's hard to give an average with all of those variables!

It depends on many different factors. The most important is how you drive. Mileage is not a accurate rating since some people drive purely on freeways, which rack up lots of miles with little wear on the brakes.

Brake pads can be made out of different materials too. (Organic, Semi-metallic, Ceramic, etc). Also the brake rotors/drums can also be made from harder metals.

It's best to get brakes inspected every 6 months. In our household my wife and I drive similar cars. I'm still on the original brake pads (4 years later) and my wife's car has already gone through 4 brake jobs. almost every year!

Pretty much depends on how you drive, give more info on your driving habits/conditions and you'll get a more accurate response.

As for myself, my brakes usually last for 18 to 24 months.

It all depends if you treat them good, and are not slamming on them 5 times out of 10.

all depends if you do a lot of start and stop driving, I would have them checked at 35,000 miles and then you will know about how much longer you have on them.
