I don't allow girls I am with to read feminist magazines or books. In addition, I don't allow them to read magazines like Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and other trashy magazine of that kind. Gossip magazines about celebrities such as People are also forbidden. Why? I want my girlfriend to feel beautiful and special and these magazines subliminally put thoughts in their heads that they have to have the perfect body, clothes, and make up in addition to many other things they say that are not good for them to believe. Finally any kind of magazines that shows men's privates is forbidden as well, but that should go without saying. I believe men have to protect their women and shield them from inappropriate materials and give them freedom within safe boundaries. I would like to see if other couples have the same ideas.

By the way, if the answer is yes, what are the names of some of the books and magazines?

He does not forbid from reading anything. I do forbid myself from reading Cosmo, Glamour or vogue becuase I feel that they demean all that it is to be a woman and make it all about being a pretty package with no substance. In fact the only magazine I read semi regularly is Renassaince Magazine because I love the faires.

I read informative books on all sorts of topics but the romance novels I avoid because I believe they set up woman to believe that there is a perfect prince charming waiting for them. Then they believe someone on a white horse is going to come and put them in some ivory tower where they will do nothing but look pretty. Its a fantasy that make woman wonder why her husband is not like fictional characters created by other females. You want a romance book male find a masculine female.

You don't have the right to make up rules for your girlfriend or wife. I dont like those magazines either for the same reasons you don't, but I would NEVER date or marry someone who "forbade" me to do ANYTHING. And any girl who would accept your rules does not respect herself to begin with. Therefore, it really doesn't matter if you try to protect her from having a negative self-image because she already has one. Instead, try to find a girl who has similar values as you. You can't force your values on an adult. She is not your child. She is your SPOUSE.

If this question is serious, I think it's ironic that you are embracing female submission and sexism at the same time that you are recognizing how sexist those magazines are. SNAP OUT OF IT. women have brains, dummy.

Are you off your rocker? "Forbidden?" You do not "forbid" information and knowledge from your loved ones. Who the crap made you god, King Censor, with the almighty best judgment that justifies your telling others what they can and cannot read? I don't think so.

Women do not need "special protection." They are strong - and especially mentally and intellectually strong - human beings.

Oh, and coincidentally, I'm sure you know that "forbidding" feminist magazines and other information helps solidify your own ridiculous amount of power over your wife/girlfriend.

My husband would allow me to read any books or magazines I wanted to but I choose to read books and magazines that are inspirational and will help me through each day. I especially like angel poems.

I am not a lady but..I don't really forbid my wife to read them but I don't like her too. I to hate those magazines they make women feel insecure. They make it sound like a woman has to weigh 90lbs o be beautiful. My wife can read them if she so chooses but I tell her everyday those women in these magazines are fake.

My husband doesn't allow me to read Cosmo or any other "smut" magazine-as he calls them. IMO he is totally right for protecting me from these types of magazines. Even the guys at work (police officers) are surprised Cosmo is allowed at check stands without a cover around it (like a porno would be). Garbage in, garbage out.

I think you're missing out ... Cosmo def has some good tips in there. You have a good point many celebrities and advertising give women bad images about their bodies ... but instead of trying to censure what she reads you should find a girlfriend who is strong and confident enough not to be pressured by those images ...

I strongly do allow my girlfriend to read any and all types of magazines that she wants to read. Up to now, she does recognize
my rule and she does read a magazine every single time she is in a beauty parlor.

LMAO
Oh hell,
you have got to be kidding
Honey, no one tells me what i can and cannot do
Would you let you girl tell you what you could and couldn't do
I think not
as a matter of fact, I'll go so far as to say
I know you wouldn't
Women will have feelings of self doubt weather they look at magazines or not
If they believe in themselves they could look at anything
And why shouldn't they be able to look at nude men?
As long as it doesn't interfere with you, why do you care.
Women don't need shielding we need understanding to be who we are and what we want to be
I'll get off my soap box now
Thanks for getting me all fired up

He probably wouldn't want me looking at mags with nude guys in it, but I wouldn't look anyways. Nevertheless, I am allowed to read anything I want. That's the freedom that comes with being female in 21st century, America.
