First, a QB should not be judged by how many Super Bowls they win, because you could put the best QB on ever last years Raiders or Lions team and they would still not even make the playoffs. One person doesn't make a team, its the team as a whole that makes a winning team. Without a great KICKER and defense Brady would not have any Super Bowl wins. The people that believe that Super Bowl wins determine how great a QB is only listen to sport broadcasters that say things just to get people excited about a player, think for yourself. With that said the greatest QB ever is Joe Montana with Dan Marino very, very close behind. But when its all said and done it could be Manning if he plays as well as he has thus far in his career.

definately not peyton manning. he is a huge product of the system with his receivers. plus he is overrated. also he can't be the best ever when there is someone in the NFL now that is better then him, and thats Tom Brady. i'm not saying brady is the best ever so stay off my back everyone. he maybe when his career is over though, it just depends. the best QB ever to me is Dan Marino, because he has so many passing records but no ring on his finger. He was always under-rated throughout his career. he didn't have much of an offensive line and no receivers either. he still managed to pull off what he did though. it's the Dolphins fault for building their franchise around him and hoping he could carry it for them. i don't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing he dropped like brady quinn in the draft. if he wasn't with the dolphins would he have still set records?? would have won a championship?? who knows. i think that when the franchise didn't surround him with talent and he ended his career without a ring he left a curse on them.(like the curse of the great bambino for the sox.by the way im a pats/bo sox fan. lol) i mean look at the sucess of their QB's after he left. thats right there isn't any. look at what's happening they have to go after trent green, and may not get him. then all they have is an injured QB and a cleo lemon. if they do get him, i bet he doesn't do much in his last few years for them.

Wait until Manning is done. Brady, too. They should get 3 more rings, minimum, between them. In the meantime, it's always going to be debatable.
If it's based on Super Bowls alone, then we have to talk about Terry Bradshaw as one of the greatest of all time. Do we? No. That's something for Brady fans to say. While that's true for Aikman and Montana, it doesn't qualify you as the best of all time.
Neither do statistics. Therefore, Marino isn't definitively the best. While you don't need 3 rings, you should at least have one. I don't care about the team he had around him. No one would make that argument for Manning (before the ring) or Fouts.
A few names that should be considered:
Staubach
Unitas
Montana
Favre
Elway
Aikman
Marino
(Favre)
(Manning)
(Brady)

I love how so many love to hold having Jerry Rice against Joe Montana in this discussion. Let us look at some facts.
-Joe Montana won two superbowls without Jerry Rice
-In 1981 Joe won a Superbowl with a leading rusher of 680 yards
-Joe won his first two superbowls with leading WR Dwight Clark who wont see the hall of fame without a ticket
-John Elway lost every superbowl he played UNTIL Terrel Davis showed up.
Joe was not my favorite player and the 49ers arent my team but it seems like 4 rings later and a post season record that was amazing and never have suffered a defeat in the big game should lend him some credit as being the best.

Before I answer your question, I would like to sub-respond to that Peyton Manning comment. There is no chance in hell that he could even possibly be the greatest quarterback of all time. First of all most of the "great" quarterbacks are judged based upon how many superbowl rings they have, so how is it even possible for you to say Peyton Manning is even remotely close to being as good as Tom Brady?

I have to go with Joe Montana. Their are so many good qb's like Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham, John Elway, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, Terry Bradshaw, or Joe Namath. Of course we can't forget about the present quarterback like Manning, Brady, & Farve.

Not an honorable mention... but I love him... Jack Delhomme.

Hard to name Manning best ever after such a short career thus far. Prior to major rule changes, Johnny Unitas would definitely get the nod. Marino is the best as far as statistics, and Elway had all of the intangibles that made him a winner, not to mention the greatest arm I have ever seen.

It's going to be Brett Farve this year. He's going to break the record! Peyton is great also but he still has a little ways to go. All time is Dan Marino and Joe Montana, the greatest.
