why does any party think they are the party of anyone

Defending the indefensible, family values, party of god, true patriots, compassionate conservatives, christian conservatives and good old republicans. The moral majority. I can almost taste the bile rising in my throat. We have an idiot, incompetent, arrogant, stubborn President, an evil, secretive, vindictive Vice President with a convicted chief of staff. A Secretary of State that is completely ineffective, an Attorney General under rising pressure to step-down, several others convicted and serving prison sentences. Let's not forget Mark Foley and Ted Haggard. The most arrogant in the entire circle of decay. Foley writing laws about sexual predators, while he prowls for his next victim, and Haggard, with his strong stance about gays, has a homosexual relationship and doing drugs and cheating on his own wife. We now have a four year old conflict which anyone with an ounce of objectivity can see is a mess, is costing us hundreds of billions in tax dollars, thousands of lives, and no clear answer as to how to get out. We have a government that has grown, is more intrusive and in another act of arrogance passed a bill to stomp on our rights and had the audacity to call it the Patriot Act. Everyone agrees the country is polarized. Well I guess that's what you get after eleven years of a compassionate conservative congress and six years of a compassionate conservative President. Family values, morals, ethics, all the talking points and look at the fine mess we are in. Actions, not slogans.

It's a gimmick, a platform...Just another marketing device. Furthermore, family values are obviously subjective, so claming to have the ultimate understanding of family values is inaccurate to begin with.

Political parties attempt to harness "values" in an attempt to sell themselves. Living up to those values is unimportant, so long as you preach them.

Good question. I was brought up in a traditional family with a father and mother who are very much alive and married. They're old folks now and when the time comes, I'll take them in.

I've learned from their love and guidance.

Ted Haggard is a fine example of Republican family values.

They're not, but like you said they "think." I am so tired of their moral tirades about abortion and gay marriage-no one is perfect and if one is to be truly moral, one would care about helping others. Libs are more moral than the Republicans.

Cons believe life begins at conception and ends at birth.

They think a fertilized egg has more rights than a living, breathing, conscious human being.

Better a second and third marriage than a fourth or fifth abortion. That being said, second and third marriages are pretty wrong as well. If you can't make it work in one, you shouldn't be able to try a second time.
