I am considering studying abroad for a semester in Prague but I am unsure whether my dreams are realistic or not. I'm afraid of the language barrier and possibly encountering racism because I am Asian-American. How friendly are the people in Prague to foreigners and will I be able to get by in Prague with English alone? I'm aware that Prague is one of the most visited cities in the world but how well does that translate into treatment of english-speaking foreigners? Oh yes...I'm also a female as well. Should that make me more wary as well?

Any help would be gladly appreciated, thank you!

Prague is one of many towns worth-visit and to do that you can start planning your vacation with hotelbye . Starting with the wonderful place across the Prague Castle or the Strahov monastery with its amazing selection and finish with …the entire marvelous city, Prague is merely incredible. In Prague you can also visit the small home wherever Franz Kafka worked or the charming Prague Castle gardens from where you could have a distinctive view of the city with its picturesque red roofs. In this town you'll never get bored. In the event that you should go throughout the spring you will find the spring trees in flower; in summer time you might find extended dusks; autumn provides you with decorative leaves and unique gentle and in winter months you will like the entire city protected with simple white snow.

I don't think you need to worry much. A lot of people in Prague speak English, so you'll get by fine. You might need someone to help you if you need to go to state offices over some paper work, because there they don't speak much English, but apart from that you'll be fine.

Czechs are quite used to Asians. There are so many Vietnamese and Chinese people in the Czech Republic. You may possible experience having some Czechs look down on you, but it's unlikely you'll experience racism in any more serious ways. Just stay away from the Neo-Nazis/Skinheads if you see them.

I know an English speaking Asian man who lived in Prague for years without any major problems. He loved it there. I hope you will too.

Being a woman won't give you any extra problems I think. I didn't experience any while I was there.

Good luck, don't worry and just enjoy yourself! :)

Not many Chechs speak English. They're not especially friendly, but they're certainly not hostile in any way. I couldn't say about the racism, since I'm pretty white-looking. My female friends actually had an easier time there than us guys. the chech guys were lining up to help them!!

Good Luck!
