You will love The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillio! This book will make you laugh, cry, and just all around feel good. Beware, you'll think that the book is for babies, at first...but don't be fooled!

Never underestimate the power of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. These books were MADE for teenage girls!

I could go on forever but these are some of the best:

The Outsiders-S.E Hinton
That was Then, This is Now-S.E Hinton
Tuesdays With Morrie-Mitch Albom
The Giver-Lois Lowry
The Devil's Arithmetic-?
Cujo-Stephen King
Marvin K. Mooney Will you Please Go Now-Dr. Suess

You should look up Lois Lowry, Stephen King, and S.E Hinton. They are GREAT writers.
