Mulch and 5-10 minutes a day should take care of any weed problems. The key is to spend a few minutes a day to take care of the problem before it becomes overwhelming. Our favorite mulch is grass clippings. They're free, easy to use, add nitrogen to the soil and weather nicely.

A weed kill type spray in a bottle, still works the best to kill the weeds in the cracks of driveways, walkways, and on the weeds in flower bed areas for me. But be careful when you spray it in the flower beds or on the lawn, that you don't end up killing or harming the grass or other good plants in the same area. You will have to repeat this about once a month.

Have you tried the landscape cloth? The heavy duty ones seem to work best.
If you are on a tight budget...and want to use something Eco friendly...save up your newspapers.
Lay newspapers (heavily), careful to overlap so the weeds don't poke through. Newspaper will retain moisture so you'll not have to water as much, and decompose quite well! Just cover the newspaper with mulch or pine straw!
Hope this was helpful to you!!

I haven't gone all out and tried the landscape cloth, or plastic liners, but I imagine they would work very well.
I am always leary of using any weed killer around the plants I want to keep, so I mulch around them.
So far it is a great success! I only have to pull a few strays every couple of weeks!
Good luck!

timber, do you mean "Preen" . That works , but is quite toxic . Weed Preventer Plus does the same thing, but is non-toxic . It 's made from corn gluten , a by-product of corn starch manufacture . (Tastes like stale corn chips- I HAD to know) You won't find it at any of the IdiotMarts, .excuse me,...er .. BigBox type stores. ;D Go to a local garden center ( you should anyway) , or mailorder/online. .

There is a spray you can buy at any Lowes or Home Depot type store that will kill only the weeds, use the one for weeds in grass and it does not kill the flowers.

well, not counting the sprays that kill just about anything, my most successful summers have been when I use plenty of mulch. not just a sprinkling, lots and lots of mulch. just got my Christmas delivery and my Mothers Day delivery the next week. I'm in heaven.

Unfortunatly nothing completly prevents them. I've been using Preen. It works pretty good. I could tell the year I didn't use it. :)

You are just going to have to pull them up yourself that works best.
