All depend on personal usage, I have customers still run their whole company on a server with a 9GB hard drive, for almost 10 years, still half empty.

I then see kids with 250GB thats almost full after less than 3 months, full of music and pictures.

It's funny how this guy is ranting, and you all answer like he's seriously asking if you would reccomend a 1TB drive, which I am fairly certin DOES NOT exist, and I chalenge the person who claimed it does to find one.

While I have noticed more then once people are reccomending more discspace without any real reason then more is better, but some people will use 1TB. I personally use about 700GB(I have a lot of videos), so I'm getting close there. It just depends on the person.

All it does if offer more storage space .... nothing to do with PC performance.
If you are certain you won't use all that space then just stick with what you have.

The reason many people would benefit from such a large drive is due to the popularity of using the PC to store & view movies. Yes they can be compressed considerably, however, for true DVD quality a full feature film can easily take up 5GB of disk space.

Depends on what programs you want. Many such as Office Suites are quite large. Even Vista is 15GB at least. Then add on Security products, programs such as Photoshop, printer software, etc and it all adds up. Also depends what you want to keep and store. Pictures, music, video and documents all take up space.

Lastly to effectively run a defrag, it is recommended to have 10% of the disk size reserved as free space for it to run effectively.

It all depends on what you do. If you start getting into using your computer for video, you'll want all the hard drive space you can get. Good quality video takes up a LOT of space.

Games take up a good chunk too.

well they do have 1000g or 1T drives, I would recommend it if you needed a lot of storage...

I have over 1T and most of it is in use...why? high def. movies =
@4-8g per hr so, for example you HDD could only have 5 maybe 10, 2hr movies on it before it's maxed out...minus the everything else you've already got on there...

Some people who store a lot of music, video and pictures will use up their HD space very easily.

Evidently you don't need to 'store much' on your hard drive ... I've got 175 and am actively looking for one of 350gigs or more ... because I'm not 'full up' but could be any time ... and I want that bigger hard drive before this one is 'stuffed' ...

1000 GB would actually be 1TerraByte, and they do make a 1TB harddrive, and I would get it, because right now I have about 400GB of files. I have a ton of music, photos and movies.
