yes myself.
i sound very gay but am as straight as the next man
i think the only solution is to ask him.
Make sure that is in a nice quiet place so he doesn't get to embarrassed and just bring the question up as if is a throw away question.
I bet he has been asked may times and he really wont care that much.
Hope it helps

Oh, yeah, there's lots of that. Poor guys who got stuck with some wimpy or squeaky voice and caught grief from it all the time when they were in school. I've known some because they were in the same egg-head crowd I often was in. When I was in high school and slightly before, there were the limp-wristed types who hit me up for some interest, but I wasn't homosexual. One of the flags that several pointed to was some of the company I kept. We used to call them effeminent, and they weren't gay (although some effeminent distinctly were).
How to tell? Talk about the subject, ask the other person how they feel, what their flavor is (in confidence, of course--and keep it that way). If they are, and want you to know, they will tell you. With all the 'coming out' conversation around this forum, there's piles of them just dying to tell it.

yes, I have known straight guys that sounded and looked gay and vice versa. If embarrassed to ask right out then try to ask about past relationships. If you like him tell him and he will either tell you if he is gay or give you a run around.

Sounding 'gay' does not mean a person is gay! Many straight people ca be very 'camp' just as many gay people look and sound perfectly 'normal' (sorry to use that word - I hate it!). I am gay and not many people realise it from my exterior appearance. Same goes for Nick! Remember - don't judge a book by its cover!

Oh yeah, I definitely know someone at work who sounds and even looks gay. But, he definitely can hit it on big time with the ladies and I wouldn't even say that he looks androgynous. He is such a ladies's man.

Speech is a poor way to determine somebody's sexuality. (But there are exceptions to this rule which cry 'oh my G*d he / she is really gay & proud).
I have been told / accused of being gay in the past, as I speak very clearly, with an accent that is hard to place. This is utter nonsense, as some people simply have to 'place' you in their small minds by accent.
If in doubt, ask.

Well... yes... where I live... the gay Mecca (aka- San Francisco) we have this saying among my friends "Gay until proved straight!".
But you really can't tell... don't assume... because you know what they say about those who assume! ;-) Just ask a little about him.... heck... if you are bold... just ask him... "you do like women... right?"
Good luck!
