Cycle.
Or look for last minute deals on Teletext. eBay or local travel agents.
The link below has them from £370 return. Just do a search in the UK for cheapest flights to japan and I am sure you can negotiate a cheaper flight if you call them and say is that your BEST price or is there anyway of reducing that charge. DON'T forget to read up on what you are and are NOT allowed to take and do over there! They have stricter rules than the UK and you may offend without realising it! Check the Japanese Embassy website. It should also tell you if you need a visa or innoculations and what medicines are not allowed in the country.

Find a cargo ship or plane.
Bribe the ickiest crewsman that you'd be willing to "do things" in exchange for passage.
"Do things."
Arrive in Japan. Then bathe in hand sanitizer. Dirty and freaky, but free.

The cheapest way to get to Japan would be to get your bicycle and friend, tie your friend to the back of the bicycle and have him run like hell while you ride your @$$ to Japan, SON

I say ;if its good enough for them;its good enough for you. 1) you and your "friend" pack about 28 days worth of supplies. (Mostly food and water) 2)You talk to a customs broker about your plans. 3) You and your friend lock yourselves into one of them twenty foot ocean containers, and SUCCESS!!! your in Japan. If you have any questions, ask an oriental!!!
HAVE FUN KIDS!!!!!
