The Manhattan project was the development of the atomic bomb. Many great minds were brought together to work on a big bomb which resulted in the 2 atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan during World War 2.

It was the project here in the USA, in Los Alamos NM that developed the first atomic weapons, the ones used for testing and also for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
