I would recommend LG, Samsung, and Dell.

Samsung is probably the best brand out there currently so it might be a bit expensive
LG makes great quality monitors as well, their just cheaper since they're pretty new to the monitor industry.
Dell monitors are pretty good.

I would stay away from ViewSonics, since I had a lot of faulty monitors deliver to work. Well faulty monitors are fine, as long as they exchange them, but unfortunately ViewSonic's customer service is less than poor. My company used to use Dell monitors, but decided to change the vendor to ViewSonic. We had about 6 faulty monitors delivered, and every time we send it back, they would send in a another bad monitor (possibly the same one that we sent back)
So we just decided to change vendors.

So with your budget LG and Dell would be a safe choice.

You can get a "lemon" at any time from any seller. Just buy from a reputable seller so you have someone to turn to if you have a problem. I watch the ads closely and recently picked up a 20" LCD for $199 - this was a one day sale.

Some good buys here.

I have a Samsung 19" widescreen model that I got about a year ago. It's pretty good and I believe the prices for them are around your range. Definitely worth checking out.
