No clue. I don't see what the big deal is anyway. Most monetary transfers are electronic.

No nation on earth has been successful with a dollar equivalent coin without withdrawing the paper dollar bill at the same time. England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc all withdrew the paper bill when they introduced the coin. People didn't like it a lot at first, then they get used to it.
I guess the "brain trust" in the US Congress think they can accomplish something no other country on earth can. The constant introduction and failure of dollar coins here reminds me of the definition of insanity, trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Just withdraw the dollar bill, and people would accept the dollar coin, and save the government billions a year to boot.

I'm Canadian, and I hated the loony when it first came out...but, not now. Don't know why, I guess you just get used to it...when you have no choice. LOL We went to Florida this past Feb., and I really missed the dollar coin. It's amazing how fast the extra change adds up with the loonies and toonies. Funny how it doesn't work in the States. There was talk for a while about turning $5 into a coin...I think the population would freak out...that's going too far.

1. The Susan B. Anthony's were stupid. They looked too much like quarters.
2. Paper bills have been around for a long time and they work just fine, and are much lighter to carry... why mess with success... or, why reinvent the wheel?
3. Since paper money is tried and true, it's very likely that people like the "novelty" of coin dollars so much, they save them, rather than spend them... hence, they go out of circulation... For instance, the Sacajawea dollars. Even I wait to spend those, sometimes...
My 3 cents on the subject.

I;m not sure...when ever I go to the states I end up with a walet stuffed full of cash...but it's all singles....the dollar coin is good for saving aswell. For the past year i've been tossing loonies and twonies into a bucket. I just rolled them all up and had nearly $500. Good night out on the town for me this weekend.

1) Paper is lighter than coin, and easier to manage in large quantities.
2) Many things one uses coins for, such as soda machines, parking meters, and so forth, have trouble with dollar coins, no matter what they tell you.
3) Circulation methods are vastly inefficient for new currencies.

Coin collectors are the key to success in the US. and they didn't like either the Susan B Anthony or the Sacajawea.
It should do much better with the US president series.

not sure what the Canadian dollar coin is like.
Ours sucks ! I had eight of these coins in my pocket and they felt like a lead weight. Our dollar coins are big and heavy so no one would like to have a bunch of these in their pocket.

I guess Canadians like carrying lots of weight in their pockets.
I would rather carry five dollars in paper, than in coins.
