My neighbor is a lifelong Seahawks fan and he continually touts Steve Largent as one of the best ever... I admit he was good, but he was no burner. My neighbor says he was fast and could run a 4.5 40... I say no way... what do you think?

He was fairly fast, but his strength was his determination. Just like Steve Smith, there is nothing specific that made him great, just an ability to catch everything thrown his way, and to never let his team down.

Though not a Seahawks fan, I would say he is without a doubt in the top three when it comes to receivers. Speed is a large requirement, but it doesn't make you a great, let alone good receiver, hence Willie Gault and Renaldo Nehemia. Steve Largent's abilities of getting open and catching the tough passes made him a legend of the game. The top receivers of all time were not barn burners, they just run near perfect routes and never quit on a pass.

Largent had average speed at best. 4.5 or 4.6 at best. His best qualities were his great hands and he was a very precise route runner.

Well back then he was probably one of the fastest people in the league. Now he would be like Keyshawn Johnson or something. Still, he scored 101 tds in his career which was phenomenal for a reciever back then
