How did World War I contribute to the formation of strong, centralized governments in Europe?

The main reason, especially in Germany, was the the war was so devastating and the death toll so very high, plus economically the countries were hurting badly, inflation was rampant in Germany, and reparations were so severe, it encouraged the development of a strong government. Actually as dictatorship is a lot stronger and more efficient than a democracy or republic which thrives on discord and arguments. The only problem is, that dictatorships tend to drift in corruption and abuse much more rapidly and severely than does a democracy.
