I found it very interesting all those people who equated anything not positive as bashing. And that is the answer to the question. It had nothing bashing anyone yet there were insulting responses. I am straight, I am proud to be straight. That is not bashing anyone and their choices. But I do not want to be gay. That is not positive but it is still not bashing anyone else's choices. So why is there so much hate leveled at the question? The hate is only going to harden attitudes.

Bob, all of those that have been banned have been people who do nothing except spiel the filthy degenerated idea of hate and intolerance. This section does not nor will it ever condone or continue to allow that kind of speach.
All of the areas of special interest are open by invitation from Yahoo!Answers. They set guidelines of conduct. Go outside of those guide lines and a person gets reported. They have appeal of the report. If it its determined that the report is not valid it is put back into the mix. But if found valid it becomes a mark against the account of the offender. If they keep it up or are seen as a "clone" of a previous incarnation, of another user name based upon the IP address, they will be banned. Once the offenses get to out hand the IP address will get banned.
If people follow the simple and straight forward rules of conduct then we can all live together in open discussion like reasonable people.
Abuse will not be tollerated

Yahoo does any 'banning' so I guess people who have talked in some way that was (as you call it) 'anyway but positive' ie. negative is against the terms of the site. Yahoo rules and not the peoples, except for the relevant laws protecting others..
Other than that, speaking negatively about people, whatever their race, sexuality etc. is often totally illegal in many countries and borders on harrassment and abuse. Such conduct is illegal in Europe, though I don't know where you're from. You don't quote any examples, thank goodness, as this might have gotten you banned on this occasion, so you're expecting us to 2nd guess what this 'non-positive' comment was - I guess slurs, treating people (not some inanimate objects) disparagingly or just remarks likely to cause insult or emotional distress to others, or aspersions, is not really appropriate for this site, nor a mature audience. A little wisdom goes a long way.
I don't need to know your sexuality, nor you mine, but I live with respect for others and tolerate diversity - thank goodness the world is not full of Stepford Wives and Husbands, all from the same molds.
I don't make the Yahoo rules, but I do expect people to behave in a respectful civilised way towards others. I'm guessing, without your fully quoted examples, that these were not treated this way. The message is : lay off of the 'non-positive' and stick with the positive. It is easy to discuss opinion without attacks that could be readily inferred as abusive. Otherwise, stay silent, I often do.
Other than that, Yahoo must ensure that its pages are fully comliant with appropriate legislation. Otherwise, they could be jointly liable, alongside the author. I'm glad you're thinking around this, and hope that you don't get banned ever again.
Good luck! Rob

1 Because the LGBT forum is not the place to vent your spleen or work on problems you have with gay people.
2 Because there's plenty enough hate in the out in the world, we don't need it the LGBT forum.
3 If you are wanting to talk about gay people in a bad way, why come here to do it? What is the agenda to try to make us feel bad about ourselves? Like there isn't enough of that already.
If you have such issues with this, why hang out here??
PS To the poster above, who claims he/she doesn't "flaunt" heterosexuality - if you have been married you have not only flaunted it in public, but demanded gifts for the privilege. All we're asking for is the same thing you get.

It may merely be the light in which your opposition to homosexuality is expressed. I view homosexuality as being immoral, and that is the reason I have chosen not to participate in such activity, and would never recommend such behaviour to others. I do not, however, consider myself better or superior to homosexuals. They have made their choice and I don't find that as justification for discrimination against them.
I do not appreciate, however, the tendency for SOME of them to flaunt their homosexuality publicly. I don't go around flaunting my sexuality for everyone to see. My sexuality is not what defines me as a person, it is probably only a small part of what defines me. Why do some feel the need to give the impression that their sexuality is the only thing that defines them?

The same reason you get a million thumbs down for saying you believe in a religion. Now I don't condone speaking negativily. But it amazes me how many positive things I say in the way of religion get thumbs down just for being religious. I strongly agree with the poster below me. I have nothing against gays but I like to see other views also.
Also, don't take it personally. I typed how I supported the person below me who said they were gay. Yet because I mentioned I believe in a religion, I got a thumb down and he got a thumb up. Shows there are people in every sector of our world that hate those that are different then them in anyway.

As this thread shows there are plenty of bigots who still claim that it's a choice and all the other BS. One poster even claims that straights don't exist - how dumb can people be?

I am gay, and i dont like people talking bad about it, but also i understand that is always interesting to see other peoples points of view. Maybe we all should be more open about it, and try to start discussions about it and clarify things that is the only way we can erase bad ways of thinking.
