It's .500 due to the fact that 4 of his at-bats were 2 hits and 2 strikeouts, the walk is included in the 5 at-bats. The first post was right.

No, walks to do not count for or against your batting average. So your average would be .400. Walks do however count for your On Base Percentage. Your On Base Percentage would be .500 which if you were playing in the Major Leagues would be pretty incredible. On Base Percentage is basically the percentage of times you get on base whether it be through a hit, hit by pitch or walk. An error would not count for your Batting Average or On Base Percentage. I hope this helps. Good luck.

You went 2-4 for a walk is not an official at bat in the box scores and you batted .500. The walk did not increase your batting average but it did increase your on base percentage.

Assuming that "2 for 5" in your example includes the walk, then your average is .500. Walks do not count as an official at bat, so you would actually be "2 for 4" or .500
Errors also do not count as at bats and fielder's choice is considered an out, regardless if you reach base safely or not.

Batting average is number of hits divided by number of at-bats. Walks do not count as either an at-bat or a hit, just as a walk. Therefore, it is not part of batting average, but it is part of on-base percentage. It is .500.

Everyone is right on this: "Walks" or Bases on Balls (BB) do not count either for you or against you when calculating your Batting Average (BA). Walks simply don't count at all except in a positive way when calculating your On Base Percentage (OBP). In your case, your BA is .500, but your OBP is .600.
Just in case anyone is interested, please check out the following link. It has a lot of stuff concerning scoring of games. It isn't perfect and there is another, better site being developed, but this helps a little if you have questions!

Walks do not count toward your avg. 2 for 5 is .400, you would have had 6 plate appearances but only 5 count as ABs because a walk is neither a hit nor an official AB.

No, a player's batting average is only the number of hits divided by the number of at-bats. Walks and hit by pitches count for on-base percentage.

To calculate your batting average just divide your number of hits by your number of at-bats
Just remember your official at-bats are ones that result in hits or outs not errors or walks.

No, a walk doesn't count as an official at-bat so it doesn't help your average, just your o.b.p.
