I think that corruption is a result of human nature, i.e. human nature is to ensure the successful existence of ones self and in doing so, some people choose actions that lead to corrupt consequences. I don't think corruption in itself is human nature. I think that society has invented social standards and rules as far as what is morally acceptable and what is not. People don't choose to be corrupt. They choose to ensure or better their way of life and sometimes their means are considered less than moral.

Corruption exist in all societies where the members are not all closely related. According to some of the anthropology I have read, when something is universally present it is usually considerate innate. Corruption also exists among chimps.

I don't believe corruption is either inherent or culturally driven, necessarily. I happen to believe corruption exists when inherent qualities (the will to survive, the will to belong) meet unfavorable circumstance.

I think it's both, especially in a family or society where it's acceptable as long as you don't get caught.
