Ballet is the base for everything. Even hiphop dancers would beneft from taking ballet. There are begining classes for every age group... My 16 year old is taking Ballet 1. There's also lyrical which is a flowy type of dance, jazz (lots of energy), modern is expressive, tap is very precise, each discipline is taken seriously by those that take and teach it... call a dance studio or two and see if you can try out a couple of classes to see what you like and what may be right for you.

i'm 28 and i take tap!
there is age groups you need to find a dance studio near you and ask them!
if they have groups with your age! (most likely they do)
and let them know you never took hip hop before and want to learn it.
so call up or go and check out your local dance studio see what they offer for you!

some types of dance
Hip- hop <-- watch Step up you'll get the idea
Ballet <-- laaaaa smooth and gracfull
Tap - noice making fun :)
Lyrical <-- looks fun no shoes thaht i can think of but it's more of like a swan mix between ballet and arobics
Jazz - not sure!

Hope that helps out!
