I guess in most cases the variable would be some degree of temptation.

Because sometimes we have to jump off of the high horse and roll around in the mud for a little while. Then jump back up on the old horse and repent for our sins. It's human nature. Human nature is a poor excuse but I'm using it this time because I'm going to have some freaky fun this weekend. TEMPTATION is the key word here. We will fight temptation until the end. I'm sure on our death bed we will still be fighting some kind of temptation. please believe sometimes we will fall far short of where we want to be morally. Life is to be lived not thought.

Answer to Jennifer J's question: Jesus said it.

IMO, I don't think that temptation to make an unmoral decision is the explaination (all of the time). There is a degree of ignorance to making immoral decisions. Abortion is a prime example. There is too much ignorance of the facts.

Because in most situations 'a lesson must be lived in order to be learned'. You may know that something is wrong but either act on impulse and not think through and/or you really don't realize the full impact of your decisions until after you have made them and experienced and felt them for yourself and others.

.....No one is perfect. No one is so "morally sound" that they never make a mistake. Sometimes the choice isn't so clear...the alternatives have both helpful and hurtful consequences. Sometimes emotions get involved, making it hard to think straight...confusion, fear, stress. Sometimes values and loyalties are in conflict. Sometimes a decision is made in haste, without full appreciation of the consequences. Sometimes people rationalize without being aware of it, because doing the so-called "immoral" thing will meet their needs.

Who was it that said, "Let he who is not perfect cast the first stone."

Yes, temptation is probably a big part of it and stupidity because the person knows better.

Emotion can often overcome reason. Also, who is deciding on the morality of the decision, you or them?

I think it depends on the situation. If pushed to far and often any sound person can go nuts.
