I called St. John's and they basically told me that becoming a pharmacist is out of the question if im not in the pre-pharm program (6 year program)... this is because i would need a degree in pharmacy. This makes no sense to me.. Why is pharmacy so hard to get into and going pre-med is so easy. I wanted to know; can't I just major in chemistry or toxicology? And if I can.. How can I go about doing this? How long will it take? Will it be extra hard? Will this prepare me for the PCAT? And will a pharmacy school take me in with a degree in chemistry? (Can I have some answers from pharmacy students, pharmacists, friends or family members of pharmacists)

you can apply to usp (university of the sciences in philadelphia) a very well known school for pharmacy. direct entry as a freshman. 6 years and you get your doctorate in pharmacy. you wouldnt need to take PCATS as a direct entry freshman.

St. John's is an unique school because it is a 6 year school. They combine both prepharm and pharmacy. At most schools, prepharm is just a series of recommended prereq courses. The standard prereqs will help you prepare for PCAT. Pharmacy schools look at your prereq GPA more than anything else.

Admissions streams into pharmacy programs vary widely. You need to do a bit of checking into other schools.

Good luck.
