Nightmare is a NOUN
Nightmarish is an ADJECTIVE
You are using a noun when you say "Today was *A* nightmare."
Note how you use the word "a", just as you would say it is *A* dog, *A* cat, etc.
Nightmarish is an adjective where the word "a" does not need to be placed before it, therefore it is also correct to say "Today was nightmarish."
And no, nightmare is not a verb. You don't say "I nightmared last night." You would say "I had a nightmare."
The opposite of nightmare is NOT fanatasy. A fantasy is the forming of mental images [conciously], a conjuring of imagination, or a hallucination. A daydream is also not the opposite of nightmare, though it would seem so since day is the opposite of night. A daydream, however, is a reverie indulged in while awake. A nightmare occurs while unconscious. This is, of course, in the context of dreams, because you could also refer to someone as a nightmare if they looked frightening. For example, you could say "She was a walking nightmare."
That being said, there is no true antonym for the word nightmare [even in the dictionary]. I would advise for you to use 'pleasant dream' instead.

The opposite of nightmare, is daydream. Or, if you break the word down, then the opposite of night mare would be day stallion. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

It is just a regualar dream, no special name attached. Kinda sad if you think about it, especially if a dream leaves you feeling really good...
